The Heart Behind the Hustle: Rebuilding Health After a Wake-Up Call

There’s a specific kind of silence in a doctor’s office when they tell you your heart isn’t working the way it should. Mine came at a point in my life when I thought I was invincible, still hustling at full speed, still telling myself I’d deal with my health later.

Later arrived faster than I expected. Rebuilding my health after that wake-up call meant confronting the ways I had been running from stillness my entire adult life. Cardio wasn’t just a prescription from a cardiologist. It became a daily practice in patience, humility, and listening to a body I had ignored for years.

Real strength includes rest. Real ambition includes boundaries.

The hustle culture I came up in taught me to treat exhaustion like a badge of honor. My heart taught me something different: that real strength includes rest, real ambition includes boundaries, and real health includes the courage to slow down before your body forces you to.

I’m not writing this from the other side of some perfect wellness journey. I still have hard days, restrictions I don’t love, and moments I miss the old pace. But I’m here, moving, showing up for my kids and my purpose, and that’s worth every early morning walk and every meal I used to skip.

If your body has been sending you signals you’ve been too busy to hear, consider this my permission slip for you to listen before it becomes a demand.
